#ACT – Action Changes Things

It came to my attention that a number of students within the fashion department were, for better words lacking motivation in finding internships. This got me thinking as to the reasons behind why this could be happening. As student representative for level five BA, I felt it was partly my job to make sure that the group were getting support, encouragement and building their knowledge on resources available within the college that could help them. My first port of call, The Employability Hub a department within the centre that caters to helping students in search of apprenticeships and employment. With the help of willing staff and the agreement of my heads of department, I’m hoping to organise a series of talks and events directed specifically to fashion students on the organisation of mandatory work placements, the importance and what consequences it could result in, alongside talks with various people from the industry i.e. designers, models, photographers, theatre, film and ex alumni that have gone on to have successful careers after graduating.
